Water & Sanitation: Giving the Gift of Life

Clean Water. Healthier Communities. Renewed Hope.

At Cornerstone Development Trust, we believe that access to clean water is not just a basic human necessity; it is a fundamental right. In many of the underserved regions where we work, families spend hours each day walking miles to collect water that is often contaminated. This leads to a cycle of poverty and disease that prevents children from attending school and keeps adults from working.

We are dedicated to breaking this cycle. By bringing safe water directly to the heart of these communities, we are laying the foundation for health, education, and long-term prosperity.

Our Strategic Focus

Our approach to water and sanitation is designed for sustainability and community ownership. We don’t just provide a temporary fix; we build solutions that last for generations.

  • Hand Pump Installation Projects: We install high-quality, durable hand pumps in villages where groundwater is the most viable source of life. These pumps provide a localized, easy-to-maintain source of water for dozens of families.

  • Safe Drinking Water Access: Beyond installation, we ensure the water is safe for consumption. Our team conducts site assessments to ensure the water source is protected from surface contamination and waterborne pathogens.

  • Community Hygiene Awareness: Water alone isn’t enough. We conduct workshops on sanitation and hygiene (WASH) to teach communities about handwashing, safe water storage, and the prevention of diseases like cholera and typhoid.

  • Sustainable Rural Solutions: We focus on rural and marginalized areas that are often overlooked by large-scale infrastructure projects, ensuring that no village is left behind.

The Cornerstone Impact

“One water project can serve an entire village and transform generations.”

When a village receives a clean water source, the transformation is immediate:

  • Health: Incidence of waterborne diseases drops significantly, especially among children under five.

  • Education: Children, particularly girls who were previously tasked with fetching water, can spend their time in the classroom.

  • Economy: Families save time and money on healthcare, allowing them to focus on small-scale farming and local trade.

Join Our Mission

You can be the reason a village drinks clean water today. Your support allows Kelvin Khursheed Bhatti and our field team, led by Ashbeel Willium, to identify the areas of greatest need and implement these life-saving projects.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is a site selected?
Our Program Director, Azak Khursheed Bhatti, and our field coordinators conduct ground surveys to identify communities with the highest water scarcity and disease rates.

How is the project maintained?
We form “Water Committees” within the village, training local residents to perform basic maintenance and repairs on the hand pumps to ensure the project remains functional for years to come.
